New Delhi [India], August 12: BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla launched a strong attack on Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi for his response to the Hindenburg report. Poonawalla accused Gandhi of trying to create panic and instability in India, comparing it to a Bangladesh-type situation.

Poonawalla claimed that the Hindenburg reports are well-planned and orchestrated to oppose one person and one party. He described the reports as filled with contradictions and falsehoods, created by a discredited organization known for short selling and creating panic. He noted that the Supreme Court had dismissed the first Hindenburg report and upheld the SEBI probe, which inspired confidence.

Poonawalla questioned whether Rahul Gandhi was challenging the integrity of the Supreme Court. He alleged that Gandhi and his supporters have no qualms about damaging the economy and financial systems to oppose one person and one party.

Rahul Gandhi had earlier raised concerns about the integrity of SEBI and the risks to the Indian stock market, following allegations against SEBI chairperson Madhabi Buch. SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Buch and her husband rejected these allegations as baseless and malicious.

In January 2023, Hindenburg published a report accusing the Adani Group of financial irregularities, leading to a significant drop in the group’s stock prices. The Supreme Court later directed SEBI to complete its probe into the allegations within three months and dismissed a plea seeking to review its earlier verdict in the Adani-Hindenburg case.
