BJP’s Shehzad Poonawalla Criticizes TMC Over Assault in Uttar Dinajpur
New Delhi, July 1: BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla has criticized the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) government for an incident in north Bengal’s Uttar Dinajpur district. In this incident, a man was seen beating two people, including a woman, in broad daylight.
Poonawalla alleged that the attacker is a close aide to the local TMC MLA, who defended the act by claiming the woman had an ‘evil character.’ He stated, “TMC means Talibani Mindset and Culture. The entire country is shocked after seeing the brutal video of Taliban-style, Kangaroo court justice being delivered in broad daylight on the streets of Bengal.”
He further criticized the TMC MLA for justifying the incident and accused leaders of the INDIA bloc of remaining silent on various issues, including this one. Poonawalla said, “This shows that they do not care for women’s issues. They only care for their politically convenient agenda.”
AAP MP Sandeep Pathak also reacted, emphasizing that law and order should not be compromised anywhere in the country. He said, “Everyone should have equal rights and honour. But politics has stooped to such a level that it has become difficult to adjudge what is right and what is wrong.”
The police have arrested the accused, identified as Tajmul Haque alias JCB, and he will be produced before the ACJM court in Islampur. The police have warned against misinformation about the incident and confirmed that the victim has been provided police security.
