BJP’s Shehzad Poonawalla Accuses Mamata Banerjee’s Government of Hiding Truth in Kolkata Doctor’s Murder Case
New Delhi, India – August 13: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla has accused the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) government of hiding and suppressing the truth in the murder and alleged sexual assault of a second-year postgraduate student at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata.
In a video posted on his social media account, Poonawalla claimed that the Mamata Banerjee government is trying to turn the murder case into a suicide and is dragging its feet on a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe. He also criticized leaders of the INDI alliance, including Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Vadra, Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Uddhav Thackeray’s party, and the Aam Aadmi Party, for remaining silent on the issue.
The incident, which occurred on August 9, has led to widespread outrage and protests. Doctors and students in several hospitals across multiple states have gone on an indefinite strike, demanding justice for the victim. The Kolkata Police have summoned the Head of the Chest Department of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital for questioning in connection with the case.
Mamata Banerjee stated on August 12 that she has instructed the police to arrest the accused as soon as possible and that if the police are unable to solve the case, it will be handed over to the CBI. She also mentioned that the Principal of RG Kar Hospital has resigned and that various investigative teams are working on the case.
The doctors are demanding a CBI inquiry, a fast-track court, and the formation of a committee for the implementation of the Central Protection Act in all hospitals.
