Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], September 13: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shazia Ilmi has cautioned the Aam Admi Party (AAP) against celebrating too soon after the Supreme Court granted bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in an excise policy case. She emphasized that Kejriwal has not been acquitted of corruption charges and that the trial will commence soon.

Ilmi stated, “AAP should not rush to celebrate it. He (Arvind Kejriwal) has not gotten bail on the basis of his case but as a civil right. The trial will start soon. He has not been acquitted of the charges of corruption…”

Regarding the Congress’ allegations against the BJP in the Sanjauli Mosque row, Ilmi pointed out that Himachal Pradesh Rural Development and Panchayati Raj minister Aniruddh Singh has labeled the construction as illegal. She questioned if Congress was implying that their own minister was collaborating with the BJP, calling Congress confused on the matter.

Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court granted bail to Kejriwal, stating that prolonged incarceration amounts to unjust deprivation of liberty. The court imposed conditions on his release, including a prohibition on public comments about the case and a requirement to attend all trial court hearings unless exempted.

Meanwhile, AAP celebrated the court’s decision, calling it a significant day for the party and the nation. AAP National General Secretary (Organisations) Sandeep Pathak said, “This is a huge day, not just for the party, but for the whole nation and every person who has faith in the republic and judicial process. This is the victory of the truth and I hope this remains the same in the future also. We welcome the court’s decision.”

However, the BJP mocked Kejriwal, with BJP National Spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia saying, “The Supreme Court has shown a mirror to ‘kattar beimaan’ AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal once again. He has got conditional bail. The ‘jail wala’ CM is now a ‘bail wala’ CM.”

Kejriwal was arrested by the Directorate of Enforcement on March 21, 2024, in connection with a money laundering case related to alleged irregularities in the now-cancelled Delhi excise policy 2021-22. On June 26, 2024, he was arrested by CBI while in ED custody in the excise case.
