BJP’s Shaina NC Joins Shiv Sena Ahead of Maharashtra Elections

In a significant political move, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Shaina NC has joined the Shiv Sena, a partner in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). This transition occurred on Monday, just hours after she was announced as a candidate for the Mumbadevi constituency in the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections. The event was marked by the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

Earlier in the day, Shiv Sena released a list of 15 candidates for the assembly polls, including Shaina NC for the Mumbadevi constituency. This area is part of the Mumbai Lok Sabha seat, historically represented by Congress’ Amin Patel since 2009. Initially, there were speculations about Shaina NC being fielded by the BJP from the Worli constituency, but Shiv Sena chose Milind Deora for that seat as a Mahayuti candidate. The Worli constituency is set for a notable contest between Deora and Aaditya Thackeray from Shiv Sena (UBT).

In other developments, Sanjana Jadhav, daughter of former BJP minister Raosaheb Danve, received a ticket for the Kannad assembly segment, while former MLA Ashok Patil was nominated from Bhandup West. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also filed his nomination from the Kopri-Pachpakhadi Assembly constituency.

Tuesday marks the final day for filing nominations for the Maharashtra assembly elections, scheduled for November 20, with results to be announced on November 23. The ruling Mahayuti alliance, comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction), and Ajit Pawar-led NCP, is in a fierce contest against the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi, which includes Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), and Congress.

In the previous elections, the BJP secured 105 seats in 2019 and 122 in 2014, while Shiv Sena won 56 seats in 2019 and 63 in 2014, and Congress obtained 44 seats in 2019 and 42 in 2014.
