New Delhi, India, September 7: BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari responded to former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s comments on Afzal Guru. Bhandari stated that Abdullah’s remarks reflect the mindset of the INDIA alliance, which he claims supports terrorists.

Bhandari praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policies for Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing Modi’s vision of development and the reduction of terrorism in the region. He said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for Jammu and Kashmir has been a vision of development. It has been a vision which has ensured that there is no terror or terror is uprooted from the valley.”

Bhandari criticized the Congress party, Rahul Gandhi, and Omar Abdullah for allegedly providing soft support to terrorists. He highlighted Abdullah’s statement that he would not have allowed Afzal Guru’s execution, calling it indicative of the INDIA alliance’s mindset.

BJP leader Altaf Thakur also criticized Abdullah, accusing him of supporting Pakistan’s policies to win elections. Thakur claimed Abdullah is scared after losing in the Parliament election.

Omar Abdullah clarified that the Jammu and Kashmir government had no role in Afzal Guru’s execution. He stated, “The unfortunate thing was that the J-K government had nothing to do with Afzal Guru’s execution. Otherwise, you would have had to do it with the permission of the state government, which I can tell you in no uncertain terms would not have been forthcoming. We wouldn’t have done it. I don’t believe that any purpose was served by executing him.”

The upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1. There are 90 assembly constituencies, with 7 seats reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and 9 seats for Scheduled Tribes (STs). According to the Election Commission of India, there are 88.06 lakh eligible voters in Jammu and Kashmir. These are the first assembly elections in Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370.
