Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], September 13: BJP National Spokesperson CR Kesavan has called for the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. This comes in response to ongoing protests related to the alleged rape and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Kesavan criticized Banerjee’s recent statements as ‘political drama’ and urged her to step down immediately. He stated, “It is high time Mamata Banerjee stops her drama and surrenders to Dharma. Instead of faking resignation dramas, she should follow rightful Dharma and quit immediately. Now as Chief Minister of West Bengal, if she has even an iota of conscience left.”

He compared Banerjee’s statements to deceitful behavior in fables, saying, “Yesterday you saw in a press conference she said all that she needed was justice. How farcical. It reminds me of the story of the wily wolf who said all that it wanted to do was protect the sheep or the cunning fox which said its only goal is to protect and guard the henhouse.”

Kesavan questioned the West Bengal government’s commitment to transparency, highlighting a recent refusal to live-stream a meeting with junior doctors. He asked, “Why is Mamata Banerjee’s government afraid of transparency? Who are they trying to protect? Are they for justice, or are they trying to protect and cover up somebody’s act?”

The junior doctors have outlined five clear demands: justice for the victim and her family, action against those who tampered with evidence, removal of Principal Sandeep Ghosh, resignation of the Kolkata Commissioner of Police, and safer conditions for students and doctors.

Kesavan rebuked Banerjee for not addressing these demands effectively and for attempting to gain sympathy instead. He added, “The reason the protests continue is because they do not trust Mamata Banerjee’s government or her police. Even after the high court transferred the case to the CBI and the Supreme Court took cognizance, people do not trust that a fair investigation will occur.”

Kesavan concluded by urging Banerjee to step down to pave the way for justice. “Stop your drama. Surrender to Dharma. Resign today as Chief Minister of West Bengal so that the path is finally paved for justice for the victim and her family.”
