BJP’s CR Kesavan Criticizes Mamata Banerjee Over Women’s Safety Laws

BJP national spokesperson CR Kesavan has criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, reminding her of the powerful provisions in the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for punishing crimes against women and children. This comes after Banerjee wrote to PM Modi, requesting stricter central legislation for heinous crimes like rape and murder.

In a video message, Kesavan said, “Like an embarrassing and self-defeating hit wicket in Cricket or a self-goal in Football, Mamata Banerjee’s letter has totally exposed her dishonesty and also completely exposed her Himalayan failure in implementing the strong, robust legal network provided by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Central government for women’s protection and women’s safety.”

The murder and sexual assault of a female trainee doctor on August 9 at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata has sparked a war of words between the BJP and TMC. Kesavan demanded Banerjee’s resignation and accused her of delaying the transfer of the case to the CBI. The case has now been transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation following an order from the Calcutta High Court.

Kesavan emphasized that the BNS is one of the most comprehensive central legislations, providing strict punishments for crimes against women and children. He questioned Banerjee’s claims about the need for new central laws and timely case disposal provisions.
