New Delhi, India, August 29: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson CR Kesavan criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her remarks suggesting that unrest in Bengal would spread to other states. Kesavan called her speech dangerous and urged the Supreme Court to take notice.

Kesavan said, “The West Bengal CM’s dangerous and inflammatory speech yesterday was nothing short of a brazen threat, blatant intimidation and an open provocation to incite unrest in our entire nation. The Supreme Court should take suo moto cognizance of this dangerous speech in which she makes a dreaded declaration saying, that if Bengal burns, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, northeast and Delhi will burn. This language of treason, hate and division could disturb peace in the entire nation.”

He further added that Banerjee has failed to provide justice to women in Bengal, stating, “Bengal is indeed burning with public outrage at how Mamata Banerjee has failed as the only woman CM. She has betrayed the trust and faith of the mothers, daughters and sisters in providing justice.”

Earlier, during a public function in Kolkata, Banerjee responded to BJP’s 12-hour ‘Bengal Bandh’ call by accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of using his party to incite violence in Bengal over a recent incident involving the rape and murder of a woman doctor. She warned, “If you burn Bengal, Assam, North-East, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Delhi too shall burn! We will topple your chair.”

Assam Chief Minister also condemned Banerjee’s statements, saying, “Didi, how dare you threaten Assam? Don’t show us red eyes. Don’t even try to burn India with your politics of failure. It does not suit you to speak divisive language.”
