BJP’s CR Kesavan Criticizes Congress and Nehru Over Shivaji Maharaj Comments
New Delhi, India – BJP’s national spokesperson, CR Kesavan, has strongly criticized the Congress party and its leaders for their comments on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Kesavan accused former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru of writing negatively about Shivaji Maharaj in his book ‘Glimpses of World History’.
Kesavan’s Accusations
Kesavan highlighted that in 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a new Indian Navy flag incorporating Shivaji Maharaj’s Raj Mudra, contrasting it with Nehru’s 1934 writings that praised Afzal Khan, a notorious general, while demeaning Shivaji Maharaj.
Kesavan also mentioned that Nehru faced criticism in 1957 when he was supposed to inaugurate a statue of Shivaji Maharaj in Pratapgarh. A Marathi writer, SG Bhaveji, criticized Nehru for his previous comments, to which Nehru responded dismissively.
Congress’s Track Record
Kesavan accused the Congress party of having a history of disrespecting Shivaji Maharaj, including allegedly bulldozing his statue in Madhya Pradesh during their rule. He also criticized Rahul Gandhi for politicizing Shivaji Maharaj’s legacy after the recent collapse of a 35-foot-tall statue in Sindhudurg district, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi last year.
Rahul Gandhi’s Response
On September 5, Rahul Gandhi, during his visit to Maharashtra, demanded that Prime Minister Modi apologize for the statue’s collapse, calling it an insult to Shivaji Maharaj and the people of Maharashtra.
The collapse of the statue has led to a political battle between state leaders, with opposition parties criticizing the Eknath Shinde-led government.
