Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Jharkhand chief Babulal Marandi has criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, stating that he should apologize for the ‘misdeeds’ of his grandmother, Indira Gandhi. This statement came amid a row over the appointment of Bhartruhari Mahtab as the pro-tem speaker.

Protest by Congress Leaders

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, along with other leaders from the INDIA bloc, staged a protest in front of the Gandhi statue in Parliament. They held copies of the Constitution to show their disagreement with the appointment of Mahtab as the pro-tem speaker.

Prime Minister Modi’s Remarks

Before the Lok Sabha session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi indirectly criticized the Congress over the 1975 emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi. He called it a ‘blot on democracy’ and urged the nation to ensure such an event never happens again.

Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge questioned the government’s focus on the emergency, asking how long they plan to rule by discussing it. Sonia Gandhi and other Congress leaders also reacted strongly to the statements made by BJP leaders.
