BJP Protests Against Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Over Power Tariff Hike

BJP workers in Delhi took to the streets on Monday to protest against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal due to rising power tariffs and water issues. The protest, led by Kamaljeet Sehrawat, a BJP Lok Sabha member from West Delhi, occurred in front of a 220 KV grid sub-station and in the Chandni Chowk area.

On July 12, Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva also protested against the Delhi government over the hike in power prices. In February, the Delhi government revised the Power Purchase Adjustment Charge (PPAC) by discoms, leading to a 6 to 8 percent increase in electricity bills for domestic consumers.

The BJP accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of conspiring with the discoms for their benefit. Delhi’s power minister and AAP leader Atishi countered that the opposition party misled the public by spreading rumors about the PPAC causing the rise in electricity costs.

Virendra Sachdeva stated that the Kejriwal government is only interested in fulfilling personal interests and accused them of expanding corruption through the PPAC. He demanded an explanation for the increase in PPAC from 1.5 percent in 2015 to 46 percent now, as well as other surcharges.
