Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], August 19: As the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections approach, Union Minister and Telangana BJP president G Kishan Reddy announced that the names of the candidates will be finalized soon under the leadership of BJP National President and Union Minister JP Nadda.

Reddy explained that the state election committee will recommend names, and the national election committee will make the final decision. He emphasized the party’s goal to protect Jammu and Kashmir from terrorism, nepotism, and corruption, and to ensure brotherhood and peace in the region after the abrogation of Article 370.

BJP leader Kavinder Gupta highlighted the party’s focus on infrastructural development and peacekeeping. He mentioned that the BJP has ended stone pelting, terrorism, extremism, separatism, and nepotism in the region, ushering in a new era of industrialization and corporate growth. Gupta also noted that some seats have been reserved for SC/ST candidates and that the BJP will contest all 90 seats independently.

Jugal Kishore Sharma, another BJP leader, expressed confidence that the party will win the elections with a full majority. He stated that both the people and party workers are enthusiastic about the elections and are ready to form an elected government.

Former J-K Deputy CM and BJP leader Nirmal Singh mentioned that the party is preparing for the elections with meetings and a nearly complete manifesto. He described this election as a turning point for Jammu and Kashmir, noting the peace and cessation of terrorism and extremism since August 5, 2019. Singh also highlighted the potential for employment in upcoming projects in the region.

The polling in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1, with vote counting on October 4. These are the first elections in Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370. The PDP-BJP coalition government fell in June 2018, and the Supreme Court directed the Centre to conclude the election process by September 30, 2024.
