BJP Prepares for Jammu and Kashmir Elections

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is gearing up for the upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. The party held an executive meeting in Jammu, attended by Union Ministers Jitendra Singh, G Kishan Reddy, BJP President Ravinder Raina, and BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh.

Key Figures and Statements

Tarun Chugh stated that the people have shown their narrative by defeating former Chief Ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti in the Lok Sabha elections. He emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir is now a state of peace and tourism under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership.

Union Minister G Kishan Reddy mentioned that BJP National President JP Nadda will visit Jammu and Kashmir to guide the workers. Ravinder Raina expressed confidence that the next Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir will be from the BJP.

Opposition Parties’ Preparations

Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of the National Conference said his party is fully prepared for the Assembly elections. He mentioned that the Supreme Court has set a timeframe for the elections, and the Election Commission has assured that they will be conducted soon.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently visited Srinagar and assured that preparations for the Assembly polls have begun. He indicated that statehood will be restored to Jammu and Kashmir soon.

Background

The BJP-led government scrapped Article 370 in August 2019, bifurcating Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories. There have been demands for early assembly elections and restoration of statehood.

In the last assembly elections held in 2014, Mehbooba Mufti’s Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party won 28 seats, the BJP won 25, Omar Abdullah’s National Conference won 15, and Congress won 12.
