BJP Plans Next Meeting to Discuss Jammu and Kashmir Elections

The Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) is set to hold its next Central Election Committee meeting on August 29 to discuss the upcoming elections in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir. The first meeting, chaired by BJP President JP Nadda and attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other key leaders, took place recently.

According to sources, the members discussed a few names in the first meeting. On August 29, they will discuss the remaining seats in Jammu and most of the seats in Kashmir. The BJP is confident about contesting 60 seats but is considering candidates for all 90 seats. Local parties like Apni Party are supporting the BJP.

The BJP has released its first list of candidates, including Syed Wazahat for Anantnag, Gajay Singh Rana for Doda, and Javed Ahmad Qadri for Shopian. The assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1. Candidates have until August 27 to file their nomination papers for the first phase. The vote counting will be conducted on October 4.

The BJP also announced its list of star campaigners for the upcoming elections. The list includes Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and other prominent leaders like Nitin Gadkari, Manohar Lal Khattar, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, G Kishan Reddy, Jitendra Singh, UP CM Yogi Adityanath, Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma, Anurag Thakur, and Smriti Irani.

Jammu and Kashmir is expected to witness multi-cornered contests in most seats. These are the first assembly polls since the abrogation of Article 370. In the Lok Sabha elections held earlier this year, the BJP won both seats in Jammu, demonstrating its strong support in the region. The National Conference also secured two seats. The votes will be counted on October 4.
