BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal Calls for Supreme Court Action in Kolkata Doctor’s Tragic Case

BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal has expressed deep concern over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. He urged the Supreme Court to take separate cognizance of the matter, citing doubts about the role of the West Bengal government and police.

On August 23, Bengal’s Sealdah Court sent the main accused Sanjay Roy to 14 days of judicial custody, under the supervision of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The Calcutta High Court has also granted permission for a polygraph test on Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, and five others who had dinner with the deceased doctor on the day of the incident, along with one civic volunteer.

Earlier, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging the establishment of fast-track courts for sensitive issues to ensure speedy trials. The tragic incident has triggered widespread outrage and protests in cities including Delhi, Chandigarh, Mumbai, and Kolkata, with calls for justice for the victim and punishment for the accused.

The postgraduate trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.
