BJP MP Raju Bista Criticizes Mamata Banerjee’s Protest Over Trainee Doctor’s Tragic Death
New Delhi, India – August 17: Amid calls for Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s resignation, BJP MP Raju Bista criticized her protest in Kolkata against the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College. Bista called the protest ‘drama’ and ‘laughable,’ questioning the roles of the state’s Health and Home Ministers.
BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh echoed Bista’s sentiments, accusing Banerjee of ‘dramebaazi’ and urging her to focus on women’s security instead of protesting. BJP leader Anil K Antony demanded Banerjee’s resignation, citing high rates of atrocities against women in West Bengal.
In response, Mamata Banerjee accused the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) and the BJP of orchestrating the incident. She urged the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to expedite the probe and criticized both parties for their alleged hypocrisy regarding women’s safety.
