BJP MP Jagannath Sarkar Urges PM Modi to Protect Minorities in Bangladesh Amid Crisis

BJP MP Jagannath Sarkar has raised concerns about the safety of minorities in Bangladesh. He believes that only Prime Minister Narendra Modi can protect their lives and properties. Sarkar emphasized the need for immediate action, highlighting that planned attacks and looting are occurring against minorities in Bangladesh.

He stated, “Planned attacks are happening against the minorities in Bangladesh. Their properties are looted. The military has got support in there. This will become a threat to our country in the future. Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Home Minister Amit Shah took the initiative to provide minorities with citizenship, then, it is their responsibility to protect them now. Action must be taken soon. Only PM Modi can deal with this kind of situation and save them.”

Sarkar, speaking as a member of the Hindu Bengal unit, stressed that his primary concern is the safety of minorities, regardless of who governs Bangladesh.

The political situation in Bangladesh has become volatile following the resignation of Sheikh Hasina amid escalating protests. These protests, initially driven by students demanding an end to the quota system for government jobs, have grown into broader anti-government demonstrations. Recent clashes in Dhaka have resulted in at least 135 fatalities, including 14 police officers, with hundreds more injured.

Following her resignation, Sheikh Hasina arrived in India on Monday evening. It remains unclear whether she will stay in Delhi or travel to another location, with some reports suggesting she might proceed to London.

In response to the crisis, the Cabinet Committee on Security convened on Monday at the Prime Minister’s residence. The meeting included Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, along with senior officials, to discuss the situation in Bangladesh.
