BJP MP DK Aruna and JPC Discuss Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024 in Hyderabad

The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024 held a meeting in Hyderabad with various stakeholders as part of its nationwide consultation exercise. BJP MP and committee member DK Aruna stated that the meeting included discussions with stakeholders, advocates, and farmers, who provided numerous suggestions.

The committee will continue its consultation exercise in Chennai on Monday, followed by Bengaluru. This is part of the first phase of the nationwide consultation. The second phase will include tours to other states.

JPC Chairman Jagdambika Pal, BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi, AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi, and Congress MP Imran Masood were among those present at the meeting held at Hotel Taj Krishna, Hyderabad. Pal mentioned that stakeholders from 42 organizations participated in the discussions, including the Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh Waqf Board chairmen.

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, introduced in the Lok Sabha on August 8, aims to bring reforms such as digitization, stricter audits, transparency, and legal mechanisms to reclaim illegally occupied Waqf properties. The JPC will submit its report to the Lok Sabha by the first week of the next parliament session.
