Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh) [India], September 21: The controversy over the alleged use of animal fat in making Tirupati laddoos has intensified. BJP MLA Sidharth Nath Singh launched a strong attack on the opposition, accusing them of insulting the Hindu faith, Sanatana Dharma.

Political Accusations

Speaking on the issue, Sidharth Nath Singh said, “Recently we are seeing in politics that, particularly the opposition–be it Congress, Samajwadi Party, now recently we are seeing on Tirupati Prasadam the previous government of Jagan Reddy, they all love to and it has become a political habit to insult the Hindu faith, the Sanatana Dharma. So, this is becoming a kind of political activity.”

He further mentioned that the central government will take strict action against the accused within the law. Singh also highlighted the issue of religious conversions during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections under Jagan Reddy’s government.

Union Minister’s Response

Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu called the allegations a matter of people’s faith and said it has hurt the sentiments of devotees. He welcomed the inquiry announced by the Union Health Minister.

Allegations and Reactions

The controversy began when Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu claimed that substandard ingredients, including animal fat, were used in the preparation of Tirupati laddoos during the previous Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) government.

Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy accused the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) of politicizing religious matters. He stated that the tender process for ingredients occurs every six months and that only certified products are used.

YSRCP chief Jagan Mohan Reddy announced plans to write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, claiming that Chandrababu Naidu has twisted the facts. The YSRCP has also moved to the Andhra Pradesh High Court, demanding an investigation into the claims.
