In Hyderabad, a group of BJP leaders, including MPs and MLAs, met with Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma to discuss recent incidents of temple vandalism in the state. They urged the Governor to initiate an inquiry and suggested involving the National Investigation Agency (NIA) if the state is unable to handle the situation.

Details of the Meeting

MP Eatala Rajender, speaking after the meeting, emphasized the need for an investigation into the attacks on 6-7 temples. The delegation included BJP LP Leader Alleti Maheshwar Reddy, MPs Raghunandan Rao Madhavaneni, Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, and other senior leaders.

Incidents of Vandalism

Earlier this month, two incidents of idol vandalism were reported in Hyderabad, leading to protests by the BJP and religious organizations. On October 11, a person was arrested for allegedly vandalizing a Durga idol at the Nampally Exhibition Grounds. The police described the act as not deliberate, involving a “vagabond.”

On October 14, the Muthyalamma temple in Secunderabad was vandalized, resulting in protests. An individual named Salman Salim Thakur was apprehended by locals and handed over to the police. The situation escalated on October 19 when police used force against protesters.

Demands for Investigation

The BJP has called for an NIA investigation into the Muthyalamma temple incident. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the Telangana government to suspend officers involved in the lathi-charge. VHP spokesperson Bala Swamy accused the vandal of being a terrorist and criticized the state government for inaction.
