BJP Leaders Criticize Mamata Banerjee Over Kolkata Doctor’s Death

New Delhi, August 22: Leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee following the death of a woman trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. They allege that Banerjee did not take appropriate action in time.

CR Kesavan’s Statement

BJP leader CR Kesavan stated that Mamata Banerjee has lost the confidence of the people of West Bengal. He said, “Mamata Banerjee has lost the confidence of the people of West Bengal and the country. Her continuation as the Chief Minister is undefendable. I think she should immediately resign in the best interest of the people of West Bengal.”

Kesavan also criticized the role of the police, saying, “The High Court and the Supreme Court have heavily criticized the police for mishandling the situation. The West Bengal police didn’t take statements on record and didn’t file an FIR.”

Shehzad Poonawalla’s Accusations

BJP leader and national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla accused the TMC of trying to save the accused. He said, “The case has shaken the conscience of the country, but unfortunately, it has not shaken the conscience of Mamata Banerjee. The institutional systematic cover-up done by the West Bengal government and police has been exposed by the Supreme Court.”

Supreme Court’s Actions

The Supreme Court has constituted a 10-member National Task Force to make recommendations on preventing violence and ensuring safe working conditions for medical professionals. The task force includes Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, among others. The court has directed the task force to submit an interim report within three weeks and a final report within two months.

The court also asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to file a status report on the investigation into the rape case. Additionally, the West Bengal government was asked to file a status report on the mob attack incident at RG Kar hospital on August 15.
