Trivedi’s Accusations
Trivedi claimed that Banerjee’s intention is not to address women’s issues but to save herself from humiliation and divert attention. He stated, “All provisions against rape accused are available in the law, but the intent of the one who implements the law also needs to be good.” He also questioned Banerjee’s actions after the 2021 assembly elections, asking how many fast-track courts were set up and how many cases led to convictions.

Trivedi further asked what action was taken against those who destroyed evidence at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where a trainee doctor was tragically raped and murdered last month.
Banerjee’s Defense
Earlier today, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee extended her support for the bill, stating that it aims to secure the dignity of women. She mentioned that she had written to the Prime Minister regarding the issue but received no reply. Banerjee emphasized that the bill is necessary to protect women and prevent a spillover effect if Bengal is mistreated.
