BJP Leader Nilesh N Rane Demands Action
On Tuesday, BJP leader Nilesh N Rane visited the site in Sindhudurg, Maharashtra, where a statue of Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj collapsed. The statue, unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi just eight months ago, fell on Monday. Rane called the incident ‘unfortunate’ and demanded action against those responsible.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde attributed the collapse to ‘strong winds.’ Rane assured that the statue would be reinstalled and praised the people of Maharashtra for their patience and calm.
Another Maharashtra Minister, Deepak Kesarkar, also visited the site and mentioned that a similar statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is being built in the Arabian Sea. He suggested that a tall statue at the current site could become a major attraction, similar to the Statue of Liberty.
Following the collapse, local police filed an FIR against contractor Jaydeep Apte and structural consultant Chetan Patil. The FIR was registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The incident has drawn criticism from opposition parties, who blamed the state government for poor infrastructure.
