Bangladesh is currently experiencing political unrest. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned on August 5 following student-led protests against the quota system for government jobs, which escalated into anti-government demonstrations. In response, President Mohammed Shahabuddin dissolved the parliament to pave the way for an interim administration.

Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has been appointed as the head of Bangladesh’s interim government. The announcement was made by Bangladesh President’s Press Secretary, Joynal Abedin, after a meeting between President Shahabuddin and the coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
