BJP Leader Manvendra Pratap Singh Urges PM Modi to Stop Islamic History Course at Aligarh Muslim University
The BJP MLC of the Agra Graduates constituency in Uttar Pradesh, Manvendra Pratap Singh, has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In his letter, dated August 4, Singh expressed his concerns about the History Department of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) introducing Islamic History subjects in their curriculum for the 2024-2025 academic year.
The new curriculum includes the History of Islam from pre-Islamic Arabia to the Pious Caliphate (661 AD) for the first year and from the Umayyads (661 AD) to the Abbasids (833 AD) for the second year. Singh described this decision as a serious matter, arguing that it replaces the National Education Policy with an Islamic education policy.
Singh stated, “Aligarh Muslim University is a university run by the Central Government, thus the history of Sikhism, Jainism, Hinduism is not being taught in the curriculum of any university, but teaching it in Aligarh Muslim University is absolutely wrong and will give birth to wrong tradition.”
He further mentioned that this move would undermine the National Education Policy’s goals and requested Prime Minister Modi to stop the teaching of Islamic history in favor of India’s diverse history. Singh emphasized that India’s glorious history should be taught according to the national education policy.
