BJP Leader Mahesh Tenginkai Criticizes Karnataka Government’s Waqf Land Notice Withdrawal
In Hubbali, Karnataka, BJP leader Mahesh Tenginkai has accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of retracting notices related to Waqf land issues for political gain. Tenginkai claims the withdrawal is a tactic to influence upcoming elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. He urged the government to issue a Gazette notification to ensure the decision is permanent, fearing the orders might resume post-elections.
Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council, echoed Tenginkai’s concerns, labeling the move an “eyewash” to win local elections. He called for the withdrawal of the 1974 gazette to provide real relief to farmers.
Recently, 41 farmers in Honwada village, Tikota taluk, Vijaypur district, received notices from the Waqf Board claiming their 1,500 acres of land as Waqf property. The farmers contested this, stating the land is their ancestral property. Following protests, the Karnataka government decided to withdraw the notices.
