BJP Expels 40 Leaders Amid Maharashtra Election Tensions
In Mumbai, Maharashtra, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expelled 40 leaders and office bearers from 37 assembly constituencies for violating party discipline. This decision comes amid ongoing disagreements over seat-sharing among Mahayuti allies. The expulsion was announced in a release by Maharashtra BJP office secretary Mukul Kulkarni, citing breaches of party discipline.
The expelled leaders include Ashok Pangarkar from Jalna, Vishal Prabhakar Parab from Sawantwadi, Mayur Kapse from Jalgaon City, Jagdish Gupta from Amravati, and Shrikant Karle from Dhule Rural. Notably, Karle recently filed a nomination as an Independent candidate from Dhule Rural.
Earlier, Maharashtra BJP President Chandrashekhar Bawankule expressed efforts to persuade rebels to withdraw their Independent nominations by November 4. Senior BJP leader Gopal Shetty also withdrew his candidacy from the Boriwali assembly seat after rebelling against the party’s decision to nominate Sanjay Upadhyay.
Meanwhile, the Mahayuti alliance, which includes BJP, Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde, and NCP led by Ajit Pawar, launched its manifesto in Kolhapur North. The manifesto outlines a vision for Maharashtra’s prosperity and development. The Maharashtra Assembly elections are set for November 20, with results expected on November 23.
