In West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district, the tragic discovery of a class 4 girl’s body in a canal has sparked outrage. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has criticized the Mamata Banerjee-led government for rising crimes against women. Agnimitra Paul, President of BJP Mahila Morcha in West Bengal, led protests in Kutali, demanding justice for the minor girl, who was allegedly raped and murdered.
Paul accused the local police of failing to file a First Information Report (FIR) despite the parents’ pleas. She called for a postmortem to be conducted at a central government hospital, expressing distrust in the state authorities. “A nine-year-old girl who was returning from tuition yesterday, her body was found in a canal today,” Paul stated, emphasizing the need for accountability and justice.
Shehzad Poonawalla, BJP National Spokesperson, also criticized the state government, alleging that the administration protects criminals. He highlighted the villagers’ anger towards the police for not taking their complaint, suggesting political motives behind the inaction. Poonawalla demanded accountability from Mamata Banerjee, accusing her government of covering up crimes and supporting the accused.
