BJP Criticizes Congress Leader Nana Patole

Controversy Over Reservation Remarks

In Mumbai, Maharashtra, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) criticized Congress leader Nana Patole for supporting Rahul Gandhi’s comments on reservations made in the US. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla accused Patole of opposing the Constitution and reservations, claiming Congress wants to end reservations for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC/STs).

BJP’s Response

CR Kesavan, BJP National Spokesperson, stated that Patole’s support for Gandhi’s remarks reveals Congress’s anti-Ambedkar mindset and casteist mentality. He emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will protect SC/ST rights. BJP leader Pradeep Bhandari also accused Congress of planning to end Dalit reservations if they gain power in Maharashtra.

Congress’s Stand

Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat urged people to understand Gandhi’s statement, which suggests reservations would be reconsidered once equality is achieved. Nana Patole defended Gandhi’s view, questioning what is wrong with discussing reservations when equality is reached.

Rahul Gandhi’s Statement

In September, Rahul Gandhi, speaking at Georgetown University, mentioned that Congress would consider ending reservations when India becomes fair. He highlighted the lack of representation for OBCs, Dalits, and Adivasis, advocating for a caste census to assess their participation since independence.
