BJP Accuses Mamata Banerjee of Destroying Evidence in Doctor’s Murder Case

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched strong accusations against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, alleging that she destroyed crucial evidence in the case of a woman trainee doctor who was allegedly raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

BJP’s Allegations

During a press conference, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia called Mamata Banerjee a ‘destroyer’ and demanded her resignation. He stated, ‘Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also holds portfolios of the Home Ministry and Health Ministry. Today all the people, women are angry and the public demands Mamata’s resignation. Mamata has become a destroyer.’

Bhatia further accused Mamata of destroying the dignity of the victim and the rule of law. He questioned why Mamata was allegedly destroying evidence crucial to the case, which could lead to the death penalty for the accused under the new criminal law, Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita.

Incident and Investigation

On August 9, a postgraduate trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered while on duty at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata. This incident has sparked nationwide protests, with civil societies and doctors demanding severe punishment for the accused and better safety measures.

The Kolkata Police arrested a civic volunteer the next day, but the Calcutta High Court directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take over the investigation due to dissatisfaction with the local police’s efforts. The CBI is using advanced techniques like 3D laser mapping and psychological evaluations of the primary suspect to progress the investigation.

Supreme Court Involvement

The Supreme Court of India, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, has also taken note of the case and will hear the matter on August 20.
