Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], September 2: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Rajya Sabha MP Sulata Deo criticized the BJP-led government in Odisha, alleging a worsening law and order situation. She mentioned that a team of BJP members had met the Director General of Police (DGP) to discuss the issue.

Speaking on Monday, Sulata Deo said, “Since the BJP came to power, the law and order situation in the state has been worsening. We met the DGP today and submitted a memorandum outlining our concerns.”

She cited recent incidents such as violence and humiliation of a government officer in Puri, communal violence in various places, and a liquor tragedy in Ganjam district as examples of the deteriorating situation.

Earlier, BJD leader Lekhashree Samantsinghar also criticized the BJP for failing to curb crimes against women. She highlighted incidents of alleged sexual assault in Khordha and Bhubaneswar, and the alleged rape and murder of a minor girl in Balasore.

Samantsinghar said, “Unfortunately, on August 27, a 10-year-old tribal girl from Balasore was brutally raped and killed. The family reported it to the police, but no action was taken for four days.”

She also mentioned that the Chief Minister’s planned visit to Remunda was cancelled after the incident, and no other ministers visited the area. She accused the government of trying to cover up the case.

Former Chief Minister and BJD chief Naveen Patnaik also addressed the law and order situation, emphasizing that during his tenure, no one was above the law. He expressed hope that the current Chief Minister, who holds the home portfolio, would address these issues.
