BIMSTEC Energy Centre to be Established in Bengaluru
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Secretary (East) Jaideep Mazumder and BIMSTEC Secretary General Indramani Pandey have signed an agreement to set up the BIMSTEC Energy Centre in Bengaluru, Karnataka. This agreement aims to enhance energy cooperation and inter-grid connectivity in the region.
Strengthening Regional Ties
Randhir Jaiswal, the spokesperson for the MEA, highlighted the significance of this agreement in a post, emphasizing its role in fostering energy collaboration. Earlier, Indramani Pandey participated in the Raisina Down Under event in Canberra, Australia, where he discussed BIMSTEC’s importance for sustainable development and proposed a dialogue platform for the Indo-Pacific region.
India’s Commitment to BIMSTEC
On September 28, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar reiterated India’s commitment to strengthening ties with BIMSTEC, aligning with India’s Neighbourhood First Policy, Vision SAGAR, and Act East Policy. He chaired a meeting of BIMSTEC foreign ministers in New York, focusing on cooperation in health, food security, trade, and energy, and improving connectivity across the region.
BIMSTEC, established on June 6, 1997, through the Bangkok Declaration, continues to play a vital role in regional cooperation.
