Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Calls for New Democratic Charter in Pakistan
Islamabad [Pakistan], September 14: Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the chairman of the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) and former foreign minister, has called on political parties to unite for a ‘New Democratic Charter.’ Speaking to media representatives at Parliament House, Bilawal emphasized the importance of strengthening the ‘Charter of Democracy’ and improving inter-party cooperation.
Bilawal highlighted the need to address the fundamental issues facing the nation and end the current parliamentary impasse. He stated, ‘Our aim is not merely to stay in government but to address the basic issues affecting the people,’ adding that governance loses its purpose if it fails to solve these problems.
In response to a question about the Chief Justice of Pakistan’s term extension, Bilawal dismissed it as a personal issue and called for constitutional amendments. He also mentioned Maulana Fazlur Rehman as an important opposition member and urged him to contribute positively when needed.
Bilawal expressed opposition to the governor’s rule but acknowledged it might be necessary under certain circumstances. He stressed the urgent need to tackle poverty and resource shortages amid economic challenges. Bilawal supported Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s ‘Chartered Economy’ concept and insisted that all political stakeholders must be consulted for any national economic plan to succeed.
