A bike rally was held in Doda, Jammu and Kashmir, on Sunday to spread voter awareness ahead of the assembly elections in the Union Territory. District Magistrate Harvinder Singh announced that the Mega Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) festival is being held across the district.

Speaking about the event, Singh said, “Mega Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) festival is being organised across various areas in the district for the elections on September 18. We all participated in the bike rally. Nukkad nataks and other events by school children are also being organised under SVEEP to spread voter awareness among people so that more and more people cast votes on September 18.”

He further assured that all arrangements have been made for a fair and smooth election process. “We have been working on all arrangements for the elections and I am happy to say that we are succeeding in them. The whole election process will be a fair and smooth process, and we will keep in mind the suggestions of the people as well,” he added.

On September 15, a voter awareness program SVEEP was organized at Pratap Park in Srinagar. Sapna Kotwal, media nodal officer SVEEP, explained that the purpose of the program is to make people aware of the importance of voting and provide necessary information regarding voting. “These SVEEP programmes are being conducted across Jammu and Kashmir by district election officers. These activities are conducted according to the guidelines of the Election Commission,” she said.

Kotwal also mentioned that voters facing any issues can call the 950 toll-free number for assistance. Earlier in the week, another SVEEP campaign was held at the Jhelum Riverfront in Srinagar, led by the District Election Officer. The event saw participation from students of various schools and colleges, who contributed creatively to educate voters about the electoral process. Activities included setting up a demo polling station where students demonstrated the voting process to the public, helping them familiarize themselves with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and understand voter rights and responsibilities. Students used art, posters, and other engaging activities to capture public interest and spread the message about the importance of voting.
