In Bihar, India, a tragic incident involving the consumption of spurious liquor has resulted in the death of 25 people in the districts of Siwan and Saran. BJP leader Nitin Nabin announced that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is aware of the situation and will take action against those responsible.

Government Response

Bihar’s Excise Minister, Ratnesh Sada, stated that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to ensure the culprits are brought to justice. He expressed solidarity with the families affected, noting that 22 individuals are receiving medical treatment, and 3 have lost their eyesight. Additionally, local officials and police personnel have been suspended.

Investigation Details

Bihar DGP Alok Kumar confirmed the arrest of 12 individuals linked to the incident. Saran Superintendent of Police, Kumar Ashish, revealed that the liquor contained industrial spirit, and investigations into its supply chain are ongoing. In the past 24 hours, 250 raids were conducted, resulting in the recovery of 1,650 litres of alcohol.

Compensation and Support

Saran District Magistrate, Aman Samir, stated that families of the deceased must support the state’s liquor ban to receive compensation. If post-mortem reports meet the criteria, families will receive an ex-gratia payment of Rs 4 lakh.

Chief Minister’s Actions

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar held a high-level review meeting and instructed the Secretary of the Prohibition, Excise, and Registration Department to conduct a thorough investigation into the tragedy.
