Bihar Students Harassed in West Bengal: Arrests Made
Two men from Siliguri, West Bengal, were arrested for allegedly threatening and harassing two students from Bihar who came to Siliguri to attend an exam. The accused, Rajat Bhattacharya and Giridhari Roy, are linked to Bangla Pokkho, a pro-Bengali advocacy group.
The incident came to light after a video of the harassment went viral on social media, drawing widespread condemnation. In the video, the students were questioned aggressively about their ability to understand Bengali and were asked to show their documents.
Biswachand Thakur, DCP of Siliguri Police, announced that the arrests were made following a complaint. He stated, “On the basis of a complaint, two persons were arrested by Bagdogra police on Thursday evening on the charge of threatening and harassing two youths claiming to be IB, police officers. Further investigation is underway.”
The attack has drawn criticism from the BJP, with Union Minister Giriraj Singh and Union Minister Chirag Paswan condemning the incident and questioning the law and order situation in West Bengal. Paswan also called for Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to investigate the case and take legal action against the culprits.
