Bihar Hooch Tragedy Sparks Political Outcry

In Bihar, a tragic incident involving spurious liquor has resulted in the deaths of 25 people, leading to a political uproar. The state’s Director General of Police, Alok Raj, confirmed the fatalities in Siwan and Saran, with 12 arrests made. Jan Suraj Party chief Prashant Kishor criticized the ineffective liquor ban, claiming it exists only in government records. He highlighted past incidents and accused the government of insensitivity.

Former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav also condemned the government, stating that the liquor ban is not enforced and that the state is insecure under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. He accused the government of covering up its failures and criticized the lack of empathy shown to victims.

DGP Alok Raj promised strict action against those involved, while Chief Minister Nitish Kumar held a review meeting, directing further investigation. Saran Superintendent of Police Kumar Ashish reported the substance as industrial spirit, with ongoing investigations into its supply chain. A Special Investigation Team has been formed, and significant alcohol seizures have been made.

Saran District Magistrate Aman Samir stated that compensation for victims’ families is contingent on their support for the liquor ban.
