Patna (Bihar) [India], September 27: Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary expressed his condolences over the tragic deaths of 46 people, including 37 children, who drowned in separate incidents across Bihar during the Jitiya festival over the last 24 hours. He stated that the deaths were a matter of concern and that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was closely monitoring the situation.

Samrat Choudhary said, “This is very unfortunate, it is a matter of concern. CM is monitoring the situation and he has also expressed his condolences.”

The incidents of drowning were reported from various districts including East and West Champaran, Aurangabad, Kaimur, Buxar, Siwan, Rohtas, Saran, Patna, Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Gopalganj, and Arwal.

Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are conducting continuous search operations across the region. According to the Disaster Management Department of Bihar, 43 bodies have been recovered so far.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed his condolences and announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 4 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased. Under his instructions, the ex-gratia amount has already been paid to the families of 8 deceased, and the process for the remaining families is ongoing.
