Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary Responds to Bridge Collapse Allegations

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary dismissed the opposition’s claims of widespread corruption following the collapse of an under-construction bridge in Samastipur. He assured that under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, efforts are being made to build quality roads and bridges.

Incident Details

A section between two pillars of the under-construction Bakhtiyarpur-Tajpur Bridge collapsed near Nandani Lagunia Railway Station in Samastipur. Manager Mohan Singh clarified that the incident was part of a dismantling process, not a collapse.

Political Reactions

RJD leader Mrityunjay Tiwari condemned the government’s handling of infrastructure safety, citing rising crime and ongoing bridge collapses in Bihar. In contrast, JDU leader Neeraj Kumar defended the administration, highlighting the construction efforts under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Supreme Court Involvement

In July, the Supreme Court issued a notice to the Bihar government to conduct a structural audit of all existing and under-construction bridges. The court’s directive came in response to a petition filed by advocate Brajesh Singh, urging the demolition or retrofitting of weak structures.
