In a significant relief effort, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced the transfer of Rs 307 crore to 4.39 lakh families affected by floods across 13 districts. Each family received Rs 7,000 through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. The funds were transferred from the CM’s residence at 1 Anne Marg, with a promise to aid remaining families before Durga Puja on October 9.

Chief Minister Kumar emphasized the need for quick compensation for farmers after assessing crop damage. He also ordered the restoration of damaged infrastructure and strengthening of medical systems to prevent diseases. During his visit to Darbhanga, he inspected a food packaging center and community kitchen, ensuring prompt relief distribution.

Congress MP Akhilesh Prasad Singh urged the government to be proactive in aiding flood victims, questioning the government’s response. The floods were exacerbated by water released from the Kosi and Gandak barrages, affecting northern Bihar and Nepal, with rivers like Bagmati and Kamla Balan overflowing.
