Big Rain and Thunderstorms Expected in Delhi and Other Parts of India, Says IMD

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted thunderstorms with light to moderate-intensity rain and gusty winds in the National Capital Region (NCR) on Sunday afternoon. According to IMD, the gusty winds will have a speed of 30-40 Km/h and will affect areas like Dadri and Greater Noida.

Earlier this week, Delhi received the highest rainfall in 88 years, with 228 mm recorded from 8:30 am on June 27 to 8:30 am on June 28. This is the highest 24-hour rainfall in June since 1936.

IMD scientist Soma Sen stated that heavy rainfall is expected in Delhi over the next two days. She mentioned that the monsoon has advanced in Eastern Uttar Pradesh and will cover Western Uttar Pradesh and Haryana in the next 2-3 days. An orange alert has been issued for Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and East Rajasthan. Heavy rain is also expected in central India, with warnings for extremely heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.

IMD has issued an alert for widespread rainfall and thunderstorms across several regions in India on Sunday. Recent satellite imagery shows convective clouds, indicating light to moderate rainfall in many locations. Intense rain, isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, and Meghalaya.

Additionally, light to moderate rainfall with isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are likely in Odisha, Konkan, Goa, Maharashtra, Kerala, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Lakshadweep, and the Nicobar Islands.
