In Siliguri, West Bengal, Excise department officials seized a large quantity of non-duty paid liquor from a vehicle coming from Darjeeling’s Ghoom area. The officers found 121 cases of beer, 11 cases of whisky, and 14 cases of rum. Two residents of Bijanbari, Darjeeling, were arrested.

Special Commissioner Sujit Das stated, “We had information that a vehicle loaded with non-duty paid liquor will enter the territory of West Bengal state. Then we set up a watch duty near Ghoom last night and this early morning we found the vehicle and after hot chasing intercepted the vehicle near Makaibari tea estate area. During the search operation a huge quantity of smuggle liquor has been seized.”

He added, “Following the upcoming Durga puja, we have strengthened the nakas, surprise watch duties in several locations and strengthened the network to combat the illegal operations.”
