Big Landslide Destroys Teesta Stage 5 Dam Power Station in Sikkim
A major landslide in Balutar, Sikkim, destroyed the power station of NHPC’s 510 MW Teesta Stage 5 dam. The hill near the power station had been unstable for weeks, with minor slides occurring frequently. On Tuesday morning, a large portion of the hill collapsed, demolishing the power station. Fortunately, no casualties were reported as the station had been evacuated earlier. The dam was already non-functional due to a previous flood and was under reconstruction.
