Big Drug Bust in Assam: NCB and STF Seize Huge Amounts of Drugs
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Guwahati made a significant breakthrough on July 23 by seizing 6.790 kg of Methamphetamine and arresting two individuals. The operation was the result of several days of surveillance based on special intelligence.
Details of the Operation
The NCB identified and dismantled an inter-state drug trafficking syndicate. The drugs were being transported from Churachandpur in Manipur to Shillong in Meghalaya. The two arrested individuals are Gouzalal Singson from Churachandpur and Thangminlun Lhungdim from Sangaikot, Manipur.
According to the Zonal Director of NCB, Guwahati, the arrests were made at ISBT By Pass, Sonari Road, Silchar, Assam, while the suspects were en route to Shillong.
Earlier Seizures by STF
Earlier this month, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam police seized more than 2 kg of heroin worth Rs 17.5 crore in two separate operations. Four drug peddlers were arrested during these operations.
In the first operation, the STF team recovered 1.732 kg of heroin in Golaghat district. The heroin was hidden in soap boxes and was found in the possession of Md Shohidul Islam and Oliullah Hussain. Further interrogation led to the discovery of more heroin hidden in their sister’s house.
Pranab Jyoti Goswami, CPRO of Assam police, stated that the total weight of the recovered heroin was 1.732 kg, valued at approximately Rs 15 crore.
