The Ministry of Law and Justice has announced the appointment of two new Additional Judges for the Chhattisgarh High Court. Bibhu Datta Guru and Amitendra Kishore Prasad have been appointed for a period of two years, starting from the date they assume their offices.

Appointment Details

The appointments were made under the power conferred by Article 224 of the Constitution of India. The President approved the appointments following recommendations from the Collegium, which includes Chief Justice of India Dr. DY Chandrachud, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, and Justice BR Gavai.

Collegium Recommendations

On July 30, 2024, the Collegium recommended the appointments of Bibhu Datta Guru and Amitendra Kishore Prasad. The Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court, along with senior colleagues, had initially recommended their names in February 2024, with the agreement of the Chief Minister and Governor of Chhattisgarh.
