New Delhi, August 23: Former Haryana Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda addressed several issues in a recent interview. When asked about the possibility of wrestler Vinesh Phogat joining Congress, Hooda called it a “hypothetical question” and emphasized that athletes belong to the entire country, not just one party. He mentioned that if anyone joins the party, people will be informed.

Hooda also spoke about the injustice faced by Vinesh Phogat, suggesting she should be nominated to the Rajya Sabha, similar to how Sachin Tendulkar was honored. He criticized the government for not giving her the same honor as a Gold medal winner despite her Olympic performance.

On the Agniveer Scheme, Hooda criticized the government for jeopardizing the future of the youth. He promised that if Congress comes to power, they would reinstate the old recruitment process, which included pensions. He highlighted that the new scheme has significantly reduced the number of youth joining the armed forces from Haryana and Punjab.

Hooda also criticized the state government for Haryana’s decline in various sectors, including unemployment, sports, per capita income, and investment. He pointed out that during his tenure, Haryana was leading in these areas but is now lagging behind.

Addressing the ongoing wrestlers’ protest, Hooda condemned the government for not delivering justice to female wrestlers who have won international accolades. He promised that the Congress government would provide permanent jobs and fill vacant posts if they come to power.

Since January 2023, wrestlers like Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, and Bajrang Punia have been protesting against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, accusing him of sexual exploitation. Recently, Vinesh Phogat claimed that Delhi Police revoked the security cover for female wrestlers set to testify against Brij Bhushan. However, Delhi Police denied this, stating that Haryana Police would take over the responsibility as the wrestlers usually reside there.
