Former Chief Minister and leader of opposition in Haryana, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, met with Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, demanding the dissolution of the state assembly. Hooda alleged that Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s BJP government does not have the required majority and should resign on moral grounds.

Hooda stated, “We have demanded the dissolution of the house. This government has no moral authority to run the government. If they want to prove their majority, then they should parade their MLAs in front of the governor.” He also expressed concerns about horse-trading of MLAs, which he believes tarnishes the state’s reputation.

The Congress delegation, led by Hooda, handed over a memorandum to the Governor, urging him to dismiss the current government and call for fresh elections. In the 90-member house, the BJP has 41 members, with additional support from one legislator of the Haryana Lokhit Party and one Independent legislator.

Recently, prominent Haryana leaders Kiran Choudhry and her daughter Shruti Choudhry left Congress to join the BJP. They joined in a ceremony at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, attended by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, former CM Manohar Lal Khattar, and BJP’s National General Secretary, Tarun Chugh.

Regarding Kiran Choudhry’s exit, Haryana state congress leader Udai Bhan commented, “It was her wish. She said she didn’t see growth in Congress and felt BJP had better growth options, so she went. People keep coming and going from the party. It is a big party. It is not a question of one Kiran Chaudhary; 40-42 have joined also.”

In the 2019 Assembly Elections, BJP secured 40 seats, Congress won 31 seats, and Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) won 10 seats. In the 2024 parliamentary elections, Congress won 5 out of the 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana.
