Bhavtegh Singh Gill Wins Silver at Porpetto Junior World Cup in Italy

Porpetto, Italy – Bhavtegh Singh Gill won a silver medal in the men’s skeet event, giving India their second medal at the International Shooting Sport Federation’s Porpetto Junior World Cup. The competition concluded on Monday.

Gill, who previously won silver at the Junior Asian Championships, shot 52 in the six-man final. He finished behind American Benjamin Keller, who hit 56 out of 60 clay targets. This information was shared by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI).

Gill’s silver medal added to the bronze won by Sabeera Haris in the junior women’s trap event, helping India secure third place in the medal standings, behind the USA and Italy.

In the qualification rounds, Gill scored 121, placing him fifth among the top six finalists. American Jordan Sapp, who eventually won bronze, topped the field with a perfect score of 125, equalling the junior world record. Italian Antonio La Volpe won a shoot-off to claim the sixth spot.

During the final, Frenchman Dorian Richard and La Volpe missed several targets early on. Gill was joint second with Sapp and Lithuanian Tomas Vaitekunas, each missing three targets. Keller took an early lead by hitting all 20 targets in the first round.

Gill had a perfect second round, catching up with Keller and securing a medal as Sapp fell to bronze. Keller finished strong to win gold, while Gill held on to silver.

Other Indian participants included Zoravar Bedi and Munek Battula, who finished 26th and 33rd in the junior men’s skeet. In the junior women’s skeet, Sanjana Sood was the best Indian, finishing 10th. Vanshika Tiwari and Zahra Deesawala finished 13th and 36th, respectively.
