Challenging Sam Altman and Building Krutrim

Bhavish Aggarwal, the founder of Krutrim and CEO of Ola, believes that India has a significant opportunity in the AI industry. He criticized OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s comments that doubted India’s ability to produce large-language models, calling them ‘genuinely wrong’.

Aggarwal’s AI startup, Krutrim, has achieved unicorn status and aims to build a comprehensive AI stack, including models, cloud technology, and chips, all within India. He emphasized the strategic importance of having these technologies developed domestically.

He also highlighted the need for an India-centric AI paradigm, which would focus on Indian data, cultural sensitivities, and languages. Aggarwal’s vision includes making India a global leader in AI and using AI to boost economic productivity.

Aggarwal runs an all-women factory with around 5,000 employees and is committed to diversity and social impact. He believes that understanding India’s history and philosophies can inspire future technological and cultural advancements.
